Ok everyone just letting you know that Austin and my artwork is going to be on show the whole month of September in the Woodinville Starbucks off of 175th in downtown. Hope you go and check it out let me know what you think. -----Erik

Well here is another installment of how I build up to a finished piece. For this one I already had the samurai mask and helmet done so I just threw a piece of vellum over it and went to town on the dragon. I got the inspiration from all those snakes slithering around the skulls and such and said what if I do this, and this is what I got. After the pencils were down I placed another vellum sheet this time the better stuff and inked it I decided on inking the samurai mask over again so I don’t have any problems with it all matching up. Copied it and went on to the colors and I will say this I hate scales. Hope you enjoy. -----Erik

Well the first draw off went off with out a hitch. Except for the super hero toys the foiled the plans of Austin to finish his drawing. But who noticed except everyone that wanted to sit down at the only free table that was covered in super heroes. It started with breakfast at Molbak's and quickly turned into a coloring whirlwind with people walking bye wondering what was going on and like most whirlwinds Austin’s interests went down the tube. The rest of the contestants finished off what they could while the coffee got cold. The final scans will be posted in a few days so stay tuned to vote for your favorite. -----Erik
OK everyone this weekend my Dad is in town so I thought its the perfect time to get this Draw off (color) kick started. This is sort of like "Iron Chef” but not. The picture we are going to be coloring is this Gorilla, and the contestants are Opa (my father) Austin (my son) Me (Erik) and a special guest star appearance to be named. We will be given roughly 10 min to get as much done as possible. Stay posted -----Erik
Well I just launched my Portfolio blog. http://sijgersportfolio.blogspot.com/ I will be using it more as a Portfolio then anything else. So don’t go there and look for a conversation or anything just pretty pictures. I'll use this one for the witty captions. To kick off the Portfolio blog is all the artwork that will be at my art show, plus the shoes, but I'm working on getting those in there too. Oh and about the "Art Show" it will be all of September at the main Woodinville Starbucks on 175th. One other thing yes I did the eye on the computer, I don't just use ink and markers. -----Erik

Well these were the few good special grind in's that I was able to do this week. We have a few regular grind in's that we are able to do but some doctors let there patients bring in there own designs or ideas. The one on the bottom was a design that they supplied I tried to change it but when they give us the picture I really can’t. The Tinkerbelle design was fun and challenging but you then have to change some of the lines so they are able to fit the mouth, especially in the face and eyes. My drill bit is only so small. Then I was lucky enough to have another skull and crossbones come in with no picture on the Rx. So I went to town on that one since the other retainer bothered me since it had eyebrows, plus I wanted to add teeth. But the one that took the cake was Winnie the Pooh, images like that work so well in the retainers. -----Erik
Well last weekend I went down a different road. After watching Overhauling and watching Chip Foose bang out awesome car designs like a machine I had to try to do a car. I was never all too good at drawing cars because all the lines had to be precise or the car wouldn’t look rite. This time though I went with a little cartoon style to throw off the seriousness. I did the color really fast because if I take to long I'm going to want to make it look like a real paint job. I just don’t know how Foose gets the metallic feel to his colors, Owell. Every time I look at this I have to say " Crusin' down the road in my 64." You guys can finish the rest. It just puts a smile on my face. Take it easy. -----Erik
Well here they are right next to each other like I promised. They would make a good upper chest tattoo. The only thing that really bothers me is that the blue on the original is darker. It's the same color but different pens. I just hate it when there’s that much of a difference. Owell it’s not that big of a deal. -----Erik

More blue pencil and ink. I originally did a swallow quite a while ago and I saw this tattoo of a swallow all wrapped up in bandages. At the time I wanted to draw something but not put too much creative energy into it. So I grabbed the old vellum page to the original and flipped it over so the two birds would be facing each other, basically traced over it and then added the bandages. -----Erik

Ok so I have some more “Pencils to Color” showcases. I was going to do another step by step post but it turned into more of a start and end with no middle. I’m ok with that and you’re going to be also. Well it all started with me sitting down to eat something and I turned the T.V. on. Sure enough Blood sport just started on Spike of course, and in the starting with the credits it shows them getting ready for the tournament and there setting up Chinese dragon masks on tables. I’ve always liked masks and really wanted to do just the head so I thought I would cover it up smoke. I tried to get the mask popping though the smoke and this is what I came up with. -----Erik
