Lego Contest (Early Entry's)

Well here are a few entries just to get your minds going. Austin and I snatched the opportunity to get G'becca while she was up visiting us. I think it’s the best one yet. Be sure to expect more from Austin and I were definitely not done. -----Erik

Fremont Bridge Troll

Well since Austin is so good at spotting the slug bugs I thought I would go take him to a great historical bug that didn’t quite make it across the bridge. I definitely like the hub cap as the eye great touch. ----Erik

Big Bots Shoes!

Well here are the transformers shoes for the main Big Bot "Randy." So for those who know Transformers I shouldn’t have to tell you who this character is but for those who don’t its Ravage one of Soundwave cassette tapes. So for the right shoe I did the Cassette tape and for the left I did him transformed into his panther. I came to Randy with this idea of black shoes with silver lines. I we both came up that Ravage would be a cool character to do this is what I came up with. -----Erik

Grind In's of Week 9/21/07

Here are a few grind in's I did this week I'll start from the bottom. The first is a Tie-Dye background with a black peace sign. The background usually will make or break the look of the retainer not to forget if you don’t pour it correctly there will be tons of air bubbles. The second is a "Gears of War" grind in. I enjoyed doing this and for this certain Doctor he likes to have a hole drilled though the middle of the retainer to reduce suction so the retainer has less tendency to snap or break. So I incorporated that into the design and placed it wear the nose would be to sort of hide it cleverly. The next was a very fun design to do and if I have to tell you that it’s a Storm trooper then you’re a step behind. This retainer was one of the most enjoyable to do in a long time, and I would like to thank my co-worker Sabina in helping me free some time up so that I was able to get it done the way I wanted to. -----Erik

Graf Wall Color Sketch

Color! I just couldn’t go to bed with such a loose sketch by it self so I decided to give it some color. As you can see I basically threw these down. Check the post times between the two that’s basically how long it took me to do the colors and it shows. I think I might do the rest on the computer. I did the original sketch on 8 1/2 X 11 and did the colors right over that so I didn’t want to waste some good markers. ----Erik

Graf Wall Sketch

OK So I have had this idea in my head to do a little art piece on the graffiti wall at the local skate park here is the very rough sketch I did while on the phone. The color's aren’t there yet and that is what will make everything pop. -----Erik

Knight Grind In revisited

OK so like I said I wanted to get you guys a better idea or picture of what was on this retainer. So here is a quick scan of the original drawing then filled in with the lovely paint bucket on Photoshop. -----Erik

Star Wars Lego

OK and finally for today, Lego Star Wars and this is what is eating up my time on the weekends and occasionally on the weekdays. My son has definitely sparked my quirky Lego building habit again. So be expecting some of my own creations on here pretty soon. Plus don’t forget the Lego minifig build off. ----Erik

Grind In's of Week 9/14/07

Well here are some of the Grind In's that I was able to take pictures of from the last week. The Green Bay Packers grind in was ok I wish I was able to do it over again but is so hard to make a simple design like this to look good on a retainer especially with circles (ovals) inside another one. The next is an Orca that was fun to do (twice) since something happened to the wire in the process of it being finished up, Owell. The Melo retainer is something I create for patient. He actually came in to the lab and talked to me about what he wanted; it’s based on the Denver Nuggets logo but with MELO in the middle for Carmelo Anthony. Seahawks football season nuff said. Last or first depending on how you read this blog but not least is a silhouette of Knight on school color background. It turned out really nice too bad the retainer was so curved and deep so the picture didn’t come out well. I'll have to show you the image I drew for that one later. ----Erik

Draw-Off Winner!

Well its official, with 2 votes Austin is the winner. Rachel comes in a close second with one vote, and well for me I want a re-count or maybe more people should actually vote next time. I had a blast, up next is create yourself as a lego character stay tuned. -----Erik

Orca or Killer Whale?

Well I just did a retainer with an Orca on it so maybe that is why I'm posting this picture. For some reason I like this simple yet fun whale and the look on his face still has attitude. Less is more sometimes. -----Erik

Darth Maul

OK....So it’s been awhile and I'm sorry, but I've been a little busy. For most of the weekend Austin and I were working on legos. Yes legos and one of the pieces that we got was Darth Maul Infiltrator. Got to say pretty nifty. Hope you enjoy this picture of Darth Maul that I did last summer.

Truck 31

Well this is Truck 31. I did this a few years back and the original is about 3 and half feet long so it shows the detail a lot more. This was fun to do but also a real pain also because of all the straight lines and circles which is really different for me. ------Erik

I Heart You ?

Well here is another image I have up on my t-shirt site. I had everyone at work write love on a piece of paper, and then scanned it in. After that I just filled in the rest with different fonts on Photoshop. It’s nice and simple which is not at all like the real love. -----Erik

Shoe Concept for Friend

Well here is another idea for a shoe. I shouldn’t call it an idea or concept since they will actually be made. These two pictures are for the front of each shoe. The design and lines are pretty locked in the only thing that might and probably will change, are the colors so they fit together better. Because right now if you were to wear them they would sort of look like you had two different pairs of shoes on. Which might be ok for some people but that’s not really what I'm going for. Tell me what you think. I hope she likes them. -----Erik

Skateboard Competition

Well I volunteered as a EMT for this skateboarding thing and I had to take the little man so along came my board and his gear. I stayed for about 45 min and then left since they didn’t need me and I didn’t want Austin taking all the awards with his street lugging technique. ------Erik

Art Show Under Way!

Well Mike, Austin and I got all the pictures up this morning before we had to be at the skateboard competition. The setup went ok the only thing that I will change is adding more pictures of the shoes and I wish the frames wouldn't rock as much Owell. Just a reminder that prints can be purchased 8 1/2 by 11's only $10 and 11 by 17 are $20. Go check it out. ----Erik

Grind In's of the Week 8/31/07

Well here are some of the grind in's that I did for this week. I did a lot more but some of them were really basic images and then some slipped out for delivery before I got a picture. I really like the stained glass retainer, it’s not something I would get my self but it does really stand out. The other one is a parrot I designed with a little stardust powder in the wings and body. Hope you enjoy. -----Erik
